Top comment, the subtlety here...

I totally agree with you on how other worldly it is. I saw the first butterfly right away- I did not see the second till you pointed it out. Now I see the ghostly figure of a woman with tfw first butterfly on her waist area and the second near her ear. Either the artist was sending a message of his own or was a conduit for spirit.

Actually my first reaction was one I’ve heard on British t.v.shows- “bloody Hell!” Not sure if I’m interpreting it correctly.

I think bloody hell, with the emphasis on bloody, is about right...

A different Beatles song then, I guess. You know, the very first Impression I got was kabbalistic (very wise of you to stick to the astrology) - all the red and blood, the Psyche mythology and more than that, shoulders as the seat of one's worries and troubles and actions: I got "Diana vibes" from the butterfly (unlike him she fits the myth) but thought it strange that she wasn't quite set on his shoulder, hence "the movement you need". When you posted that she was there, I tried really hard but couldn't see it. I gave it a break, and when I got back it was immediate - never could have done it without you, too subtle for me, let alone my 100 times beaten cellphone screen... Yet by looking so hard, I got to see someone else, whispering words of wisdom I thought - little did I know it was another MM until you posted this. The painting is pretty awesome, and maybe even intentional, but you are absolutely brilliant! Thank you so much, Jessica. L.

HI Jessica,

Thanks for such great insights.

I actually find the painting really compelling. I am seeing people on Twitter flip/invert the image and come up with all manner of imagery. Like you say, its like a Rorschach Test, and people, I think, are seeing projections of their own 'psyche' and perhaps, their own fixations relating to the Monarchy or lifelong psychological companions (of their own), in addition to the deliberate inclusions, deftly and subtly included by the artist.

As much as the King has always been in love with Camilla, he and Diana are connected on a level that can't be escaped, forgotten or unravelled. And this association has literally 'coloured' his life and his reign. Red can signify all manner of things, not just blood.

Thanks again Jessica.

Blessings,

DinP xx

Incredible find Jessica! I was struck by the emphasis on his face and hands in the portrait (they are usually red/swollen) using that same color to obscure everything else but, was interesting. It brought to mind his Sun/Chiron conjunction for me. Almost as if he is bringing what is flawed forward. Love this. Thank you!

Great take on this, Maureen! Do you think he's trying to avert karma? The Nodes are where they are, after all.

Thank you! That was what I was most struck by. Haven't looked too closely at his chart. It does look like lots of Pluto/Chiron to me.

This is so spot on, chapeau, so much to learn, I feel more than I see, therefore astonishing input for me. I still can’t see Diana…, but when I noticed the second butterfly, I thought of your Meghan banana comment, as I remembered Meghan wearing Diana’s butterflies. For me the portrait is the second bang moment after the grim reaper at Charles coronation. So many messages, I guess in June the royal family will inform about changes, wouldn’t be wise to wait till autumn?♥️

Forgive me Tracy but this is the third bang, I think. The first was Diana live on TV at the Queen's funeral procession. Diana is a glimpse here, good for her! Meghan is front stage, just look!

This is a fascinating article, Jessica - thank you. I loved learning more about Psyche and the butterfly connection.

I have to say that I can now see TWO versions of Diana in the same area of the painting. It took me a while to see the one you refer to, with the smaller butterfly just below Diana's ear. I first saw a full-length Diana, with the two horizontal dark splotches just above the smaller butterfly looking like Diana wearing a pair of sunglasses, raising her hands to touch her blonde hair and looking uncannily like some of the final photos ever taken of her, when she wore shades and swimwear aboard the Fayed yacht. The second, smaller butterfly is over her left breast and heart area, which seems highly symbolic to me!

Fascinating that she is able to upstage Charles even in his official portrait...

I think I can see 3 faces when I had another look in the light if day.

Anyone else?

Try as best I can I can’t see the 2nd b’fly or Diana🙉 I trust in your assessment 100%….♑️🩷

It's not a sympathetic portrait. Although his face is a good rendition, I am not drawn to the painting in a pleasant way. To me it represents everything I loathe about the man. He has blood on his hands, so to speak. It's his fault that things turned sour for Diana in their marriage - he was never faithful to her.

This is so cool! I don't get into asteroids too much, but the mythology of Psyche is very present in both this painting and his chart, nice astrology detective work:) Also, I've never looked at his chart before, but wow does it make a lot of sense. Nothing says suck it up and do your duty like Saturn in the 6th square to like, everything in the 9th.

I can see the late Queen Elizabeth peering over his right shoulder not far from the butterfly

Is that Megan standing not far from his left elbow perhaps

Beautiful Jessica! Yes, Diana seems more alive in this painting than Charles who looks morbid...

Hi Jessica, that’s incredible, wow thanks for bringing attention to Diana and the other butterfly. I also think I saw the head of a horse which made me think of Queen Elizabeth but may be another meaning.

Out of interest I read an article dated 2nd May 2024 from the New York Times which mentioned Jonathan Yeo had a near death experience in March 2023 where “..he recalled a palpable sensation of floating outside his body.” Soon after recuperating he was apparently “immersed in the portraits” of King Charles (and two others). I don’t know how it works and am probably reading far too much into it, but could a near death experience have brought him subconsciously in touch with a message from the spirit world?

Thanks again, love Becky x

Oh, I didn’t know that about Yeo having a near-death experience, Becky. Thank you.

Brilliant piece Jessica love looking into portraits deeper - I hadn’t done it on this but you’re right second butterfly 🦋 and Diana around him. Are there other ancestors surrounding him? The running horses 🐎🐎came to my mind - strange happenings ❤️❤️

Thanks Jessica, when I spotted the butterfly the other day, I immediately thought of Psyche but wondered why it wasn’t in white. Didn’t spot the other butterfly until you pointed this out. I’ve now spotted so many fairies all over the painting. Beautiful. Extraordinary. One is close to the bigger butterfly.

The first butterfy, near the king, is a Monarch butterfy. Subtle, eh? I also see fairies and little animal faces and a dragonfly on the opposite side of the king to Diana. Wonder who a dragonfly might be. I see Meghan between the king's face and Diana, turning away from him. She has long dark hair and a large headdress.

Oh yes! Thank you.

I saw dragonflies too

I assume Catherine’s in the painting too but where?

If you zero in on the yellow blotch to Charles' left ear, Catherine is at the top right of this yellow blotch. I was able to spot QE2, Prince Phillip and Harry as well, they are in the top right-hand side of the portrait as you're looking at it. Haven't spotted William or Anne yet.
